Carl’s Jr. Footlong Cheeseburger

 Carl’s Jr Footlong Cheeseburger

From Mc. Donald’s BigMac Burger to Burger King’s Triple Whooper burger, the fast food industry is always on the run to make the top knoch burger with more bang for your buck.

Carl’s Jr Footlong CheeseburgerTake for example this years newest member to the fast food family, KFC’s bunless Double Down which consists of 2 greasy fried chicken patties, smootheringcheese, topped off with bacon

. . . Atkin’s doesn’t have anything on this bad boy!

As the fast food industries continue to compete with each other, so does Americans waste lines. The shocking caloric count on some of these burgers run high into the thousands with artery clotting fats and cholesterol. Not to mention that most people don’t eat just the hamburger. We can’t forget to add those deep fried goodness of french fries and the sugar loaded coke to make the meal complete! Oh, and can you supersize that while your at it?

 Carl’s Jr Footlong Cheeseburger

If Mc. Donald’s BigMac wasn’t enough, just wait till you hear the news I have for you. Carl’s Jr. is testing a footlong hamburger in some of the California Carl’s Jr chains… that’s right folks, Subway’s $5 footlong is going to have some major competition coming up.

Carl’s Jr Footlong CheeseburgerThe Carl’s Jr. Footlong Cheeseburger consists of 3 large buger patties, decadently dressed with layers of cheesy goodness on a footlong bun. Wonder how they super size that bad boy?!?!

Charged at only $4.00-$4.50, Carl’s Jr. is sure to get customers flocking to their doors. This price is like 3 hamburgers for the price of one!

The Footlong Cheeseburger is going to give Carl’s Jr. just what they want… publicity and revenue. But where is the line drawn in integrity and moral between money and the health of this nation? Type II Diabetes, Heart attacks, and strokes are among the leading health problems in American and I’m sure the fast food industry has something to do about it.

Foods like these should be outlawed!

Question

What’s your take on Carl’s Jr. Footlong Cheeseburger?

Do you think the Government should start regulating Nutritional content of fast food chains?

Do you remember Lenin, Stalin, Reagan ? You want the government to tell you not to eat something this ridiculous ? I am pretty sure that if you are smart enough to turn on the computer, you are probably smart enough to know not to eat that…

Cammy@TippyToeDiet August 1, 2010 at 12:43 pm

I’m not in favor of government regulation (as in determining what can and can’t be sold), but I do support requiring public disclosure of nutritional content. If they’re so proud of their sandwich, they ought to be willing to tell us ALL about it.

Yikes! I can’t say I’m really surprised Carl’s Jr. has come up with something like this… but I hope people who order it are planning to SHARE!

Like the above commenters, I wouldn’t be in favor of government regulation, but I do think they need to publicly disclose the nutrition content!

I also wish health and nutrition education would be improved for the general public! I think a lot of people think they’re “getting away” with eating junk like this, when they really have no idea how their bodies are handling it internally, or the long-term effects of eating junk like that on a regular basis. It’s definitely going to be more costly than $4-4.50 in the long run!

I think I’m a bit more outraged at the way our food supply is being produced (beyond our control) than what fast food restaurants are churning out (within our control). These companies produce what we demand. If people buy the foot long, they will keep producing it. If not, and people demand healthier options, they will respond. Likewise, if people request what is in the food (and will turn away if not told) then the companies will have no choice but to respond.

I think government policing what people eat is actually going a bit too far. We do need to take some responsibility for our own actions and what we consume. Making a choice not to go to these restaurants and not support this food is the first step!

i truly have mixed feeling about fast food joints. i feel like i dont know which way is the best in terms of helping out the health of our people. do we shut them down or do we get them to make healthier food or do we just continue to advocate whats good and bad in terms of food choices. some fast food joints have pretty good options, not the best, but not super horrible- they deserve praise, yet the same place can have the most disgusting food served there that defeats the purpose. i wish big corporations had less power, and laws were strictly placed that says “make this food healthy or you will be shut down!”

I am with Cammy. I live in CA & since I don’t eat fast food, I had not heard about this yet…. just gross to me. If somebody has to eat it, I hope it feeds a family if 10! Yuck is my thought about it, the KFC crap & all of it!

Kaz August 1, 2010 at 11:43 pm

That burger disgusts me. It’s bad enough that people are eating so much fast food, but the thought of somebody sitting down and eating that by themselves makes me sick. =(

That said, it shouldn’t be outlawed, but consumers should be informed as to what’s in it so they can make the choice whether or not to not eat it.

I just shared this blog with my coworkers (nurses)… we all agreed that the food you discussed sounds awful! One did say her son would love the double down from KFC. I can’t decide if I think the government should control fast food chains… My thinking is if it is regulated in public schools, then why not fast food chains?

Angela (the diet book junkie) August 2, 2010 at 6:11 am

yikes! that is just…really gross. i sure hope people don’t order a Big Mac and think they’re ordering healthy by comparison!

nah, i don’t think the government should regulate fast food chains, it would be too hard to draw the line on what’s acceptable. people just need to start caring about what they put in their bodies. food is fuel as much as it is pleasure.

Ugh, that just goes to show another reason why I don’t like fast food. To me, that just doesn’t sound one bit appealing, but I am sure it’ll become a new trend..just like obesity unfortunately.

I heard about this, but I hadn’t seen any pictures yet – grosssss! A footlong CHEESEBURGER?! I’m all for freedom and your right to chose, but apparently Americans aren’t smart enough to make the right decisions. So maybe the government should step in.

Really loved this post!

OK I have not heard about this thing, wow is all I have to say. That thing looks so gross. And I love cheeseburgers, don’t get me wrong!

I think food places should have to disclose nutritional info, ingredients, etc but people should be able to make their own decisions — I don’t want the gov’t telling me what I can and can’t eat!

Efi August 2, 2010 at 3:39 pm

In Greece junk food is not so popular. Mc Donald’s, Wendy’s and KFC, failed and closed their stores actually.
Yes it looks kind of gross as everybody else said.

Justin Dupre August 3, 2010 at 3:53 am

Health of this should be taking more seriously. I agree that the government should enforce law and regulate all these fast junk food.

Robin August 3, 2010 at 10:34 am

I think just looking at these gives me indigestion.

Simply Life August 5, 2010 at 8:03 am

Ugh, just those pictures alone make me so sad…

Dynamics August 5, 2010 at 12:17 pm

It is a shame. People need to start taking responsibility. Government should not do that. More info would be nice. How about designing something the doctors can give patient’s to help them make good choices. Knowledge is a fantastic tool!
