Fool Proof Diet

One good decision leads to another good decision

Mornings are a crucial part of one’s day. It can predict how the entire day is going to go by how the morning’s events unfold.

Have you ever noticed when you wake up on the wrong side of the bed or the morning doesn’t go as planned, the entire day is thrown off? The little things that normally wouldn’t get under your skin is blown out of proportion and everything seems to go wrong. But when the morning goes smoothly and you get to work on time, the rest of the day is a walk in the park.
In this theory, I have come to believe that starting off the day in a healthy way will lead to a day full of healthy decisions.
On the mornings when I set my alarm early for that 2-mile run and eat a well-balanced breakfast, healthy choices seem to start overflowing throughout the day. My self-control is one step ahead of my junk food cravings. My drive and motivation to eat clean is reved up and running strong. I have the will power to walk past the cookies in the break room and reach for a granola bar. I can kindly decline the chocolate cake… with a smile, and bust out the apple over the candy bar.
*******
However, on mornings that I wake up and stop by Dunkin Donuts for an apple fritter donut (my favorite), I find that I end up reaching for not only the apple fritter, but for the cookies left in the office break room, the chocolate cake at lunch, and a mid-afternoon candy bar… not to mention what goes on after dinner when everyone is sleeping.

I like to call this the snowball effect of one bad healthy decision. I thought of “oh well, I already ruined my diet I better enjoy this day to the fullest” comes into play.
So how do we prevent the snowball effect of bad healthy decisions?
Start off your morning on the right foot by fool-proofing your diet for the rest of the day! Set that alarm clock early for a good 30 minute workout and plan ahead for a breakfast full of protein and complex carbs.
Question
How do you start off your day in healthy living?

I love starting my day with a green monster. I get a huge dose of fruits/vegies and tons of vitamins and good for me nutrients. There’s no better way to start than that!
It’s rare for me to do the unhealthy version of breakfast (I plead the Fifth on the other meals), as I love the idea you expressed so well here: it starts the day out on the right note.
I find having some protein with my brekkie definitely starts my day off right!
Protein Pancake which can either consist of rice protein & egg whites or pureed pumpkin & roasted butternut squash & egg whites… or an egg with some butternut squash & pumpkin (separate dishes) is what starts the day for me! A great balance of fat, protein, fiber/carbs! Right after eating I make my way on over to the gym and work it out… then I am ready to take on the rest of the day!! YAY!
Oh and of course I cannot forget my large doses of vitamins!
I definitely agree that when I get up early and work out and make more healthy decisions throughout the day.
I definitely try to give myself more than enough time to get ready and look nice for work (haven’t been doing so good lately, haha). I feel that I have a better day also if I put effort into my look for some reason also.
My day always starts healthy.. workout is a morn thing for me & I LOVE my healthy breakfasts so all is good! I know all people are not morn people but at least starting the day with healthy foods if you are more into later in the day workouts is the plus!
It’s gotta be a mega-dose of caffeine for me….
Monster Energy drink with protein still works!
You are so right, starting the day right makes such a difference!!! I used to have a really hard time eating anything in the morning, but I have trained myself to eat a healthy breakfast every morning. I also like to work out first thing in the morning when I have the chance.
Love this post! So, so true!
Ahhh I feel like I’m having one of those days today! I haven’t had a single solid meal and very few fruits and veggies – I need to take charge with a nice big salad! Thanks for the push babe
I eat a healthy, nourishing breakfast to get my day started on the right foot!
I have to start my morning off right with a delicious hot breakfast and some quiet time with some tea. If I’m rushed and harried, it makes me grouchy and lethargic and sets a bad pace for the rest of the day. I’d rather get up an extra two hours early to avoid having to rush around at the last minute. Sleep is important, but my morning “me time” is moreso.
Oh this is so true! And yesterday I started off okay but a few hours later the snowball began. Sigh. My best days are ones where I follow my routine and get in a good workout.
I totally agree that when I eat junk for breakfast I eat junk all day. But, if I make a good balanced breakfast I tend to make better choices for the rest of my meals.
It definitely is easier for me to stay motivated with healthier decisions when I start the day on a positive note. I do always try to take things one meal/workout/etc at a time though to fight from giving in to the “I already indulged so might as well keep going” mentality. It’s super hard though!
so true!! i always make time for a good breakfast in the morning. high fiber cereal and scrambled eggs (and coffee, of course.) i don’t know what i’d do without it
I definitely always get my good breakfast in, but I’m not so great about the morning workouts. I need to challenge myself to get into a routine. It’s just 30 minutes earlier than normal after all!
This is like that commercial for NutriGrain bars. Although I am not the biggest proponent of them, I think the commercial makes a lot of sense. One healthy decision typically leads to many more. I start off my day blogging, drinking coffee, relaxing, then working out for about an hour. It’s the perfect start! I follow my workout with a large breakfast of whole grain oats and almond butter, with some frozen blueberries. I love it!
i always drink a big glass of water when i wake up and do 30 minutes of cardio, weight training, or yoga. gotta wake up that body!
tea tea tea lots of tea, it helps start my digestion off on a good foot and i like to think it balances me too
xoxo
I take a teaspoon of cod liver oil in fresh juice. I drink water. Have a healthy breakfast. And chase it all with coffee.
And then I am ready for anything.
I start my day off with oatmeal and dark chocolate PB. Sweet but healthy! YUM! I dont do caffine but love water in the morning!
