PinExt Healthy Low Calorie Tuna Salad Recipe

Something’s a little fishy about this post today!

I’ve been craving tuna salad for the longest time… don’t ask me why because I absolutely H-A-T-E fish. Nothing that swims in the ocean will get near my mouth. It’s just a weird psychological thing I have with picturing little Nemo fish swimming in the ocean. All the while I can be very content with a hamburger and not think twice about these poor little guys.

The sad thing about this huge dislike for fish is that I am missing out on the great fat content in fish. Yes, I said it, fat! Contrary to popular belief, fat is a great thing. It actually can be great for the heart… in moderation that is. Now, don’t go run and grab all the donuts, chips, cookies, and French fries your stomach can handle. Not all fats are created equal, which you can read HERE. But the one thing about fish is that they contain omega-3 fatty acids that are the perfect type of fats to prevent heart disease.

Omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential. Unlike most nutrients that the body can make itself, the body cannot make omege-3 fatty acids, yet the body needs them in order to function. Omge-3 plays a vital role in brain function and growth. Therefore, it’s up to you and me to get these little bad boys into our bodies, which are found in tuna, halibut, salmon, nut oils, etc.

Here is a list of the health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids:

- Lowers High Blood Pressure and Cholesterol

- Reduces the risk of Heart Attack and Stroke by reducing plaque in arteries

- Reduces Triglyceride levels in the blood

- Decreases inflammation for Rheumatoid arthritis

- Strengthens bones

- Helps resolve depression symptoms and mood swings

- Reduces symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

- Reduces risk of colon, breast, and prostate cancer

- Improves memory

Well if that doesn’t motivate you to go fishing, than I don’t know what will!
