How to Drink More Water
Oh water… can’t live with it, can’t live without.
If any of you are like me, you choose flavored beverages over water anytime of the day. I must admit, Diet coke is my guilty pleasure and it gets in the way of my 8 cups of water a day, leaving me dehydrated and feeling sluggish. I know, I know… Diet Coke is horrible to drink and I shouldn’t be drinking it. I am working on it people… ok, maybe not as much as I should. I guess this post is more for me than it is for you guys!
Water works in so many different ways throughout our body. Just look at how water affects out body
There are so many benefits to drinking water besides the obvious of staying hydrated! Drinking at least 8 cups of water a day aids in weight loss, moisturizes skin to make it look younger, relieves headaches, fuels to brain to function better, aids in energy to exercise longer, prevents cramping and sprains, and helps fight against the flu.
So with this in mind, how can we get more water in throughout the day?
Here are 7 great tips to get in more water:
1.) Buy a fun water bottle and NEVER let it leave your side
- Rule: Only fill up with water
2.) Drink one glass of water prior to every meal
3.) Spice up your water with a slice of lemon or lime.
My friend taught me to slice up cucumbers and throw them into a pitcher full of water the night before. The water soaks up the flavor of the cucumbers to give a nice taste. You can do this is all sorts of fruits!
4.) Straws… They work wonders
- Who would have known that straws help in drinking water? I find myself drinking so much more when I drink from a straw.
5.) Drink and Drive… water that is
- Ok, this is the only time on my blog that I will ever encourage you to drink and drive. Keep your car cup holder full with your fun water bottle and make it a priority to drink your water while on the road.
6.) Add your vitamins
- Kill two birds with one stone by getting in your vitamins and water at the same time. There are several different vitamin supplements made to be mixed with water
7.) Filter your water
I don’t know where you live, but Arizona has the worst tasting water in the world. Brita Filters have saved my life ever since I moved out here. They aren’t too expensive either. Speaking of filtered water… Starbucks has the best water ever! From what I hear it’s triple filtered
Find what works for you. Hopefully some of these tips will help you cross the finish line of 8 cups by the end of the day.
Cheers and drink up!
Question: How do you fit in your 8 cups of water a day?

I quit drinking diet coke last Dec for 2 weeks to see how I felt. Once I got past the initial headaches I felt like a million bucks! So good I decided to quit and its been over a year. All I drink now is plaon water, that’s it. No juices, teas, flavoring. The best helper…. My awesome Camelbak water bottle. I carry it EVERYWHERE and it has a straw so I drink a ton more. Good tips Ruth. Time to quit coke!

I have a 1-L Sigg bottle that I keep with me at all times. I CRAVE water now if I don’t have enough. Also, I pretty much only drink water. Sometimes coffee in the morning, and sometimes diet soda … but only if it’s part of a cocktail

I flavor my water with a little OJ (not from concentrate). In my 20 oz bottle I add 2 oz of OJ. It helps with blood sugar and tastes good. I love water so drinking it is not a problem for me. Frequent potty trips, that’s a different story
Thanks for this post. I’m always reminding folks to drink their water!

I think once you really acquire a taste for water, which can take some time, it is not a challenge. At least not as much of one. Until then, you sort of have to force yourself to do it.

ah thanks so much for the tips, lovepie! I have such a hard time getting in enough water — especially in the winter months when it’s so cold! All I want is coffee and tea

Can I add one more to your list? I like to add lime and mint to a pitcher of water and store it in my refrigerator. Even my kids like this and request that I make it. Who knew that you could tear kids away from soda with water.

Hi there! First time here. I guzzle guzzle guzzle in the morning. I have a trusty water bottle and I just plain pound it. My bladder takes a beating in the afternoon, but it makes me feel great to get my water in.
Hope

I don’t leave home without my water and keep my bottle by my side at all times.

I definitely agree on getting a fun water bottle. I actually really like water though, I just worry about having to pee too often!

I do the same thing – carry a water bottle with me everywhere. I also reuse the same tea bag over and over – my office is usually really cold and I want a warm drink, not cold water so I usually just keep the same tea bag in for a touch of flavor and keep drinking water with that!

I drink water but sometimes just plain water dosent do it for me,,just makes it hard sometimes to drink a large amount,,when we dine out I always drink water with meals, but at work and home I do add flavors to my water and Crystal Lights and other store name brands to it,,makes it loads easier to chug alot!
