 The Importance of Exercise Mats

As Yoga and Pilates becomes the new crazy, a durable exercise mat is important to have in the safety, comfort and effectiveness of stretching and working out.

The Importance of Exercise MatsHard flooring can be very dangerous on your body when exercising, causing joint, bone, and muscle damage. The spine is vulnerable to even greater damage without an exercise mat to protect the vertebrae while practicing poses and exercises.  In fact, exercising on improper flooring can lead to arthritis, degenerative disc disease of the back, and breakdown of cartilage in the knees.

From sit-ups and jumping jacks to the Childs pose and Pavenmuktasana pose in yoga, an exercise mat is a necessity! For this reason it is vital that you pay special attention to the type of exercise mat that you purchase.

 The Importance of Exercise Mats

In considering the purchase of an exercise mat, one should not only consider the durability and thickness of the mat but also the size. A small exercise mat for a large activity can lead to the risk of slipping off the mat and causing severe injuries such as injuring the tailbone or spraining an ankle. In finding an exercise mat that works for you, ensure that it is large enough to be used in a vast amount of activities.

So where is a great place to find a safe and durable exercise mat?

I really miss my yoga mat over here in London. A dirty floor and occasional grassy field isn’t quite as ideal. Although I’d have to disagree and say a mat is not an essential. People have efficiently been practicing yoga on towels/floor for years and years.

39 Alisa August 1, 2010 at 2:22 pm

So glad I discovered your blog before this giveaway ended! I love the way that mat rolls up and could so use it. Aside from the mat, I am definitely interested in the hot yoga towel on their website. I want to get back into Bikram yoga this fall (used to go regularly) and that towel sounds like the perfect accessory!

HOLY COW! There are mats & protein powders & medicine balls & just about everything I could want. I am having trouble picking! I will say that a mat would be great though as I don’t like to use the ones at the gym & I just have my towel….

Put me down for the Omega Gummies too. Getting the goodness of the supplement with the fun of a “candy” – it’s a win.

44 Veronica August 2, 2010 at 8:29 am

I’m considering the appetite suppressants (like Hunger Strike). I like the idea of them being natural and just decreasing appetite without any added stimulants. My appetite gets me into trouble a lot but I’m also worried that I might become dependent on them and eat way way too much when I stop taking them. I think I will try a bottle and see how it goes.

I’d like to try the Arnica Cream Bruises by Nelson Bach. I’ve always been a bit of a klutz and bruised easily, but as I’ve gotten older I bruise even more. I’d love to try a natural herbal remedy to treat the bruises.
