As fall approaches, I can’t help but be reminded of one of my favorite places to visit at this time of year. Oak Glen, a unique array of apple orchards and farms dispersed within a local area in which families and friends can pick their own apples, enjoy apple tastings and watch how apple cider is made. The most memorable times at Oak Glen is enjoying a hot apple crisp in the midst of a cool, brisk day. Our family never left Oak Glen without having a bit… or two ? Now that I live hundreds of miles away, a trip to Oak Glen just didn’t make it into the calendar for this fall.
Apple Crisp is always a great dessert to pull out of the recipe books around this time of year. As the leaves change colors and the weather becomes cooler, there is nothing like freshly baked hot apples covered is cinnamon sugar streusel. The one down fall to any apple crisp is the large amounts of sugar and butter than comes along with such a delightful dish. However, with a few tweeks and twists, I have created a perfect Low Calorie Apple Crisp recipe to bring a little fall into the kitchen.
