People of interests alike can come together in support for one another in so many different ways, especially when it comes to healthy living and weight loss. </span></span></strong><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">An internet community that I have been extremely inspired by is <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com" target="_blank"><span style="color: #3366ff;">Sparkpeople</span></a>, a weight loss community created to <span style="color: #ff6600;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">SPARK</span></em></span> people’s desire to live a healthy lifestyle and lose weight.</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">Sparkpeople is 100% FREE with the resources, support, and community to push people towards healthy living. </span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #993366;"><a href="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/spark.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1946" title="spark" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/spark.jpg" alt="spark Sparkpeople: A Healthy Living Community" width="190" height="44" /></a></span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">Upon signing up, one can create a weight loss or maintenance goal. Based upon the food pyramid, sparkpeople creates a range of calories, carbs, fats, and protein needed to obtain weight goals. What I love the most about sparkpeople is that their philosophy is all about eating the things you enjoy but in moderation, never going below 1200 calories, and finding joy in living healthy. </span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><span style="color: #993366;"><a href="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/spark-food.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1947" title="spark food" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/spark-food.jpg" alt="spark food Sparkpeople: A Healthy Living Community" width="376" height="451" /></a></span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">Keeping track of what is being put in the mouth is made easy with a nutrition tracker that will add up all your calories, carbs, proteins, and fat to find that balanced diet. Sparkpeople offers daily meal plans around your caloric needs, or you can input your own meals. </span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">An exercise tracker is used to keep count of how many calories are being burned as well.</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #993366;"><a href="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/spark-exercise.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1948" title="spark exercise" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/spark-exercise.jpg" alt="spark exercise Sparkpeople: A Healthy Living Community" width="365" height="307" /></a></span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">A nutrition and exercise tracker is great, but without a community there is no accountability! <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com"><span style="color: #3366ff;">Sparkpeople</span> </a>has a message board where people can find healthy recipes, motivation, support, and a place to voice weight loss frustrations and achievements. I love the replied I get, not only from the sparkpeople dieticians/coaches, but also the members. When I need advice on my diet or support/motivation when I feel burnt out, someone is always there for me to push me through. </span></strong></p>
<p><a href="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/sparkpeople1.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1964" title="sparkpeople" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/sparkpeople1.jpg" alt="sparkpeople1 Sparkpeople: A Healthy Living Community" width="450" height="262" /></a><span style="color: #ff6600;"><br />
</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">Other things you can find on this website are great articles on nutrition, exercise, motivation, and health topics. You can join sparkteams that focus on different topics/interests such as clean eating, specific age groups, and running. </span></strong><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">You can find tons of <a href="www.sparkrecipes.com" target="_blank"><span style="color: #3366ff;">great recipes</span></a> ranging from low calorie to high protein meals that can spice up your diet and prevent food boredom.</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">I love sparkpeople and can’t believe that so many people have never heard about it before. This site is great not only for people that want to lose weight, but also for those with diabetes, heart problems, and other health related issues in which to help control their specific diets and stay on track to a health living! So what are you waiting for, go check it out!!!</span></strong></p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;"><strong><span style="color: #993366;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><span style="color: #993366;">Question</span></em></span></span></strong></h2>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><strong><span style="color: #993366;"><span style="color: #ff6600;"><span style="color: #993366;"> Have you heard about sparkpeople?<br />
Where is your community found in health living</span><span style="color: #993366;">?</span></span></span></strong></h3>

<h3><span style="color: #000000;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1326" title="091-Students-Oak-Grove-73107D_0" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/091-Students-Oak-Grove-73107D_0.jpg" alt="091 Students Oak Grove 73107D 0 Avoiding the Freshmen 15" width="384" height="257" />We have all heard about the dread Freshmen 15 and I&#8217;m sure those of you that are just starting out college would think that you would never gain 15 pounds in one year. But pride comes before a fall my friend!</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #000000;">Gaining 15 lbs during your first year of college is so easy with the all you can eat cafeteria, vending machines around every corner, late night donut runs with all your friends, and pizza <img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-1332" title="35-3022.00-3" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/35-3022.00-33-300x225.jpg" alt="35 3022.00 33 300x225 Avoiding the Freshmen 15" width="300" height="225" />nights&#8230; the list could go one. Between the newness of being off on your own and the stress of a new environment and classes, it&#8217;s so easy to gorge yourself with food, especially when all your friends are doing it too.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #000000;">Whiles gaining the freshmen 15 at college or on a university campus can be easy, it is not inevitable. Here are some great tips to prevent weight gain during your college life:</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="color: #eb133e;"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1334" title="images" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/images16.jpeg" alt=" Avoiding the Freshmen 15" width="108" height="119" />Hit up the gym.</span> Most universities / colleges have free gyms available to students around the clock. Check out your class schedule and plan at least 30 minutes of daily workout into your schedule. This will also give you a little bit of leeway in your diet as well.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="color: #eb133e;"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1336" title="images-1" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/images-19.jpeg" alt=" Avoiding the Freshmen 15" width="150" height="113" />All-You-Can-Eat College Cafeteria</span>. Get rid of the &#8220;All-You-Can-Eat&#8221; mentality and go for only one plate full. For me this was hard because I know that I was not getting my money&#8217;s worth, but I also wasn&#8217;t paying for my waistline to expand as well. Your plate should consist of 50% greens, a choice of meat, and the other 25% whole grains. Watch your portion sizes as well. Don&#8217;t be fooled either, most foods are full of lard and fat. I was shocked when I asked what our cafeteria put in the eggs and the cook said mainly cream, butter, and lard. Dont be afraid to ask what is in the food! Stay clear of un-identifiable meats too! GROSS! </span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="color: #eb133e;"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-1338" title="1392730" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/1392730-300x225.jpg" alt="1392730 300x225 Avoiding the Freshmen 15" width="189" height="142" />Avoid Late Night Eating.</span> When everyone is hanging out till 3 in the morning, the best thing to do is go for late night pizza or donut run. Don&#8217;t deny yourself food if you are craving it, but also don&#8217;t over indulge. Healthy eating is about moderation so go have fun with your friends but only have a few bites. Or better yet, fill up on water.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="color: #eb133e;"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1340" title="images-2" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/images-210.jpeg" alt=" Avoiding the Freshmen 15" width="120" height="118" />Vending Machine Snacks.</span> Sometimes vending machines is the only option while on campus. Go for something wholesome and nutritious. Skip out on the candy and go for pretzels, reduced-fat popcorn, or granola bars. When it comes to drinks, avoid those full of sugar such as gatorade, soda, and go for water, milk, or unsweetened iced tea. </span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="color: #eb133e;"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-1341" title="yozone_snacks" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/yozone_snacks-300x152.jpg" alt="yozone snacks 300x152 Avoiding the Freshmen 15" width="210" height="106" />Keep Your Dorm Free of Junk Food and Unhealthy Snacks.</span> Loading up on healthy snacks will cut out unwanted temptations that call out your name when you studying and is great to have on hand when everyone is heading for ice cream late at night. The freshman 15 increases with every unhealthy snack you eat. Load up on fruits, veggies, oatmeal, low sodium soups, yogurt, string cheese, and fat-free popcorn.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="color: #eb133e;">Don&#8217;t Skip Meals.</span> Ironically those that skip meals are more likely to gain weight. This increases your changes of overeating later when you are starving and want to grab anything in sight. Make sure to wake up early enough to grab something on the go for breakfast and plan ahead for healthy meals if you have a class during lunch or dinner. </span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="color: #eb133e;"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1342" title="images-3" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/images-34.jpeg" alt=" Avoiding the Freshmen 15" width="119" height="90" />Avoid Stressing Eating.</span> With all the stress of a new environment and college class, food can become your best friend&#8230; especially those powdered donuts. Make sure that you become aware of when you are stressed and then decipher if you are really hungry or not. If you are stressed and want to turn to food, chew on some gum to relieve the stress. </span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #000000;"><br />
</span></h3>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #eb133e;">College life is some of the best years of your life, so make sure that you are not taking away from that by stressing yourself out over your weight and appearance. Just stick to these tips and you will be be sure to avoid the Freshmen 15!</span></h3>

Prioritizing is key here! Pretty sure TV shouldn&#8217;t be on your top 5 priorities of the day <img src='http://she-fit.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt="icon smile Exercise Excuses: How to Overcome Them" class='wp-smiley' title="Exercise Excuses: How to Overcome Them" /> </span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a4b;">If you want to get get healthy and active, you are going to have to make some changes and give up 30 minutes of your day. Turn off the TV at night and take a walk or pop in a workout video. Have an hour lunch break at work? Cut that break in half and use the last 30 minutes to go on a walk with your co-workers.</span></h3>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #e41a4b;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em>&#8220;But I don&#8217;t have a gym&#8221;</em></span></span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a4b;"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1314" title="images-1" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/images-18.jpeg" alt=" Exercise Excuses: How to Overcome Them" width="111" height="117" />The gym isn&#8217;t the only place to workout. Go outside and enjoy nature and the beauty that it holds. Here are some </span><a href="http://she-fit.com/summer-fun-workouts/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="text-decoration: none;"><span style="color: #993366;">fun exercise</span></span></span></a><span style="color: #e41a4b;"> to do outside. Not to fast, think the weather won&#8217;t allow it or it&#8217;s too dark? Pop in a workout video and get to work! Here are some of my favorite </span><a href="http://she-fit.com/fun-workout-videos/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="text-decoration: none;"><span style="color: #993366;">workout videos</span></span></span></a><span style="color: #e41a4b;"> less than $20.00</span></h3>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #e41a4b;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em>&#8220;I hate exercising&#8221;</em></span></span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a4b;"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-1311" title="RBTzTsT3zEEvKoNi.JPG" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/RBTzTsT3zEEvKoNi.JPG-199x300.jpg" alt="RBTzTsT3zEEvKoNi.JPG 199x300 Exercise Excuses: How to Overcome Them" width="87" height="132" />Exercising doesn&#8217;t mean spending countless hours on a treadmill or bike. Find something that you enjoy doing that will increase your heart rate. Go for a walk, swim, dancing, join a recreational adult sports team.</span></h3>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #e41a4b;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em>&#8220;I&#8217;m too tired&#8221;</em></span></span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a4b;">Being tired has been linked to a sedentary lifestyle. The best way to beat this cycle is to get up and go workout. I know I always dread putting myself out of bed but at the end of my workout I am full of energy and feel ten times better!</span></h3>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #e41a4b;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em>&#8220;I don&#8217;t get a break from the kids&#8221;</em></span></span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a4b;"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1318" title="images-2" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/images-29.jpeg" alt=" Exercise Excuses: How to Overcome Them" width="140" height="93" />Kids exercise too you know. In fact, it&#8217;s not only a great way to let them have a good time but it&#8217;s a way to wear them out and get them ready to hit the pillow hard tonight. For those of you that have little ones, pull out the stroller and take a walk to a nearby Starbucks or grocery store.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #800080;">When you find yourself jumping on the exercise excuse bus, just think through all these reasons as to why you should go workout. And remind yourself of all the major benefits of working out&#8230; weightloss, lower body fat, decreased risks of illnesses / diseases, reduce depression, and increase energy.</span></h3>

Souplantation is a soup and salad bar. </span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #008000;">Thinking we would get a low calorie lunch, loaded with veggies and fiber, we were so excited. . . Little did we know that we had fallen into a dietary disaster.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #008000;"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1210" title="images-1" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/images-16.jpeg" alt=" Soup and Salad Bar: Avoiding A Diet Disaster" width="98" height="103" />Soup and Salad bars are great alternatives to any restaurant, but if you don&#8217;t watch it, your meal could become worse than just ordering hamburger, fries, and a shake at McDonalds.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #008000;">Now, you are probably thinking, how can you go wrong with a salad? These little suckers are so deceiving! Just because there are veggies on your plate, doesn&#8217;t mean it&#8217;s healthy when they are swimming in a pool of ranch dressing and loaded with cheese and croutons.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #008000;"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-1212" title="758484656107_0_bg" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/758484656107_0_bg-300x225.jpg" alt="758484656107 0 bg 300x225 Soup and Salad Bar: Avoiding A Diet Disaster" width="170" height="128" />And salad bars usually don&#8217;t just come with a salad. At Souplantation you get the bakery, soups, and dessert all added into your meal. Who can resist those cute little muffins screaming, &#8220;Pick Me, Pick Me?&#8221; </span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #008000;">Seconds anyone? Because salad bars are coined healthy, people usually enjoy going back for seconds. I always use the excuse that I need to get my money&#8217;s worth. But really, one large full plate is more than enough. Going back for round two can sabotage your diet and lead you into further temptation when you walk by those muffins screaming your name&#8230; don&#8217;t torture yourself like that!</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #008000;">Healthy and all, these types of places deceive people into think that they are eating healthy, so <img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1220" title="images-2" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/images-26.jpeg" alt=" Soup and Salad Bar: Avoiding A Diet Disaster" width="116" height="83" />they go on a free for all. . . eating everything in sight. It&#8217;s dangerous people! They really should have a warning sign up or something. I had to rolled out of the restaurant by the time I was done.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #008000;">Here are some tips that will help you stay within your daily calorie budget when eating at a Salad Bar.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #800080;">* Go in with a plan! Know what you want to eat and what you want to avoid</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #800080;">* Skip out on the pre-tossed salads! These salads can have hundreds of calories and fat</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #800080;">* Get the dressing on the side and dip your fork into it instead of drowning your poor little veggies</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #800080;">* Skip out on croutons and bacon bits. These bad boys are loaded with fat and unnecessary calories</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #800080;">* Watch out for pasta salads. They usually are not as healthy as you think</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #800080;">* Choose a vegetable soup if soups are available</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #800080;">* Get only one side to your salad</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #800080;">* I would say skip the bakery all together, but who am I kidding&#8230; limit yourself to one and skip the butter and honey.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #800080;">* Opt out of the ice cream and head towards the fruit and jello.</span></h3>
<h2 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #e11d64;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em>Question: What is your favorite Soup and Salad Bar Restaurant and what do you enjoy to eat there?</em></span></span></h2>
<p style="text-align: center;">&nbsp;</p>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #008000;">I love Souplantation / Sweet Tomato&#8230; they are the same company.</span></h3>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #008000;">The blueberry and bran muffins are my favorite. The best part are the tops!</span></h3>

<h3><span style="color: #003366;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1189" title="1E211483D6E7C4EE76A56ABAED737" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/1E211483D6E7C4EE76A56ABAED737.jpg" alt="1E211483D6E7C4EE76A56ABAED737 Sabotaging Your Diet Late at Night" width="300" height="350" />It&#8217;s tough work going through the day, rejecting the cookies a co-worker brought in, denying the cake at the birthday party, opting out of the french fries at dinner, but some how we do it. For some reason staying on track with food can be right on. . . until about 9 or 10pm rolls around and then it&#8217;s just all down hill from there.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #003366;"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1204" title="728530_f260" src="http://she-fit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/728530_f2605.jpg" alt="728530 f2605 Sabotaging Your Diet Late at Night" width="187" height="190" />By no means am I talking about an apple or scoop of ice cream&#8230; I am talking about a full blown meal. For the amount of calories consumed that evening, you might as well have had the cookies, cake and fries!</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #003366;">So how do you prevent your self from sabotaging your diet from late night binge eating?</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #003366;">The answer is simple, stop eating! Ha&#8230; If only it were that easy, right? Because this task can be so hard to do for many of us, here are some tips to break the old habit and toss it out the window!</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a53;">* Distract yourself. Go for a walk with your dog. Find a great book to read. Do some of your blogging during this time.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a53;">* Instead of brush your teeth right before bed, do it right after dinner. Brushing your teeth has been proven to decrease one&#8217;s appetite.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a53;">* Have a high fiber dinner, which will keep you full longer</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a53;">* Keep that cup full and glued to your side, keeping your hands and mouth busy!</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a53;">* Make a list of healthy low calorie snacks that you can eat at night and nothing else. I always know around 9pm that I will eat a sugar-free pudding cup. I know that if I can just hold out a few hours that I will get to enjoy this and then it&#8217;s back to the water!</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a53;">* Go somewhere in the house where you can&#8217;t see the kitchen. For some reason when I see the kitchen, I gravitate towards it&#8230; weird, I know!</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a53;">* Suck on a hard candy. This keeps your mouth busy and will last longer than chowing down on several bowls of cereal.</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a53;">* Work on your food journal during the evening</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a53;">* Ask your roommate or spouse to hold you accountable to only a small snack and nothing more at night</span></h3>
<h3><span style="color: #e41a53;">* Make sure you are getting enough calories in during the day, so you aren&#8217;t starving late at night.</span></h3>
<p><span style="color: #003366;"><br />
</span></p>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #e41a53;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="color: #003366;">QUESTION: What is your favorite night-time dessert or snack?</span></span></em></span></h3>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #003366;">Mine is chocolate pudding with cool whip or a bowl of cereal.</span></h3>
