I’m not one for power bars or granola bars. I figure the small little bars just aren’t worth eating because they don’t keep me full long enough so why bother? Not to mention that most power bars are full of sugar and high.
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to try out Zing Nutrition Bars. At first I was a little hesitant because of my predisposed judgment on nutrition bars, but I thought that I would give a try with the help of a few friends from the office.
Unlike most nutrition bars, Zing bars were founded by 4 dietary nutritionists that sought out to create a nutrition bar that was gluten free, soy free, dairy free, and wheat free.
These all-natural bars are created from a nut butter base of peanuts, cashews, and almonds and naturally sweetened with agave, creating a high protein, vegan based nutrition bar.
The best part is all the wonderful flavors ranging from Almond Blueberry, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Coconut, Peanut Butter Chocolate, and Cranberry Orange.
Here is the average nutritional break down:
Calories: 210
Total Fat: 9g
Saturated Fat: 1g
Trans Fat: 0g
Cholesterol: 5mg
Sodium: 115mg
Total Carbohydrate: 23g
Dietary Fiber: 5g
Sugar: 13g
Protein: 11g
At first I have to admit that I was a little shocked at the calorie and sugar content, but then I realized how nutrient packed these bars are. They are a great source of healthy fats, protein, and fiber.
These bars would be perfect for someone who is eating 5-6 small meals a day… and if you are anything like me who needs to up my fat intake, the bars are a great place to add in more healthy fats.
With the help from the healthy fats, protein, and fiber, these guys are sure to keep you feeling full and satisfied till your next meal.
So what’s the review of these little guys? With the help of my friends, this is what they had to say:
Taster #1 (Gluten-Free Dieter): Chocolate Coconut Zing Nutrition Bar:
“I liked this bar. The chocolate had a good flavor & the brown rice crisps & real coconut gave it a slight crunchy/chewy texture – something that you don’t often find in gluten free items.”
Taster #1: Cranberry Orange Zing Bar
“It was sort of like an oatmeal raisin type of bar except that it had cranberries. The orange flavor was present but wasn’t overpowering.”
Taster #2: Chocolate Peanut Butter Zing Bar
“The peanut butter part of the bar was really good, I liked the pieces of peanuts in the center! The dark chocolate coating on the outside was a little bitter, but overall I like it and would eat another one!”

I’d have to say i’d love to try the chocolate peanut butter one
I’ve not tried these, but they look good. I am not much on nutrition bars for the very same reasons you mentioned. This might be worth a try though.
omg i love that u got people to do a taste test/review! thats awesome.

I use nutrition bars only on an “as needed” basis, but these sound interesting. I would probably try the peanut butter/chocolate one. I’d eat a shoe, if you put peanut butter on it.
Thanks for the review!
I pretty much feel the same as you on nutrition bars, although I do like to have a stash in the pantry just in case I need something fast for on the go. I’ve never heard of the Zing bars–the flavors sound great!
I personally love granola bars because they are perfect on-the-go snacks that can tide me over until lunch or something during class. I also love them for track meets!
These bars seem great because they are loaded in Unsaturated fat and protein
I make my own granola bars because I’m not a huge fan of the options out there. However, I do enjoy the Cliff Kids bars.
I’ve never heard of Zing bars, but the Chocolate Coconut bar sounds great!
never seen these bars before, but they sound awesome.
and YES the highlight of my DAY at the hospital is GETTING YELLED AT BY MEAN NURSES! it’s so EXCITING and UPLIFTING! omg. what do your nurses yell at you about? i got yelled at because i messed up something, and then THIS NURSING STUDENT was like Call Linen Department NOW and tell them i want a new pair of scrubs. (i thought she wasn’t talking to me, but the secretary, but the secretary said, i’ll do that later. mean nursing student: i wasn’t talking to you. i was talking to the volunteer. (HELLO I HAVE A NAMETAG BITCH!) and then the secretary (love her) was like okay, she doesn’t do that. I DO THAT. she helps ME. not YOU.
epic.
These sound great! Especially since they have a nut butter base, yum. I would love to try the oatmeal choco chip!
great review girl! i’m not a big bar eater (haha) but i always keep my eyes peeled for good reviews so this is awesome!
i’d be all over that chocolate coconut one. they sound great – i am big on bars b/c i’m always eating in my car and i have such a sweet tooth….
I don’t eat lots of nutrition bars, but they are great when I’m out and about. I always keep one or two in my purse. The orange/cranberry flavor sounds great!
I like that these bars are free of some common allergens. Too bad they’re not nut free too so that I could try them!
I love when I can find bars that have more balanced stats and more natural ingredients. Those look like a good one for that. I hope you are having a great weekend.
I do buy some to have on hand and we take them when we travel. I wouldn’t choose them over fresh food but I think they have their place.
I just wanted to point out that not all of the bars are dairy-free: only 3 of them are (coconut chocolate, pb chocolate chip and the cranberry orange). And I think 1 of them is not soy free. They are all, however, gluten free as you mention.
The chocolate coconut is my favorite. Tastes very similar to a Mounds or Almond Joy bar, but makes me feel less guilty for eating it. It’s their newest flavor, so a little harder to find right now. But worth the wait!
